Trip in Pakistan ~ Beginner difficulty
Next summer I will try to climb Nanga Parbat (8125m) in the Karakorum Mountains (Pakistan). I have been thinking for a while on whether taking a break after the last tiring season when I tried to climb K2 (8611m) and Broad Peak (8047m) and I only managed to climb the fore summit of Broad Peak (8035m). After quite some thinking I have decided to try another 8000m peak and Nanga Parbat has been my dream for few years now.
We have already set up the team of 10 people that will go on a trip in July and August 2008. The organization of the expedition starts as well as the personal preparations – training and gathering financial support.
Over the winter I will try to climb as many routes as possible - ice falls, long snow and ice alpine routes and in spring I will need to focus on gaining the overall physical strength with rock climbing, running, hiking and cycling.
Since I live in the mountainous part of Slovenia I can spend all my free time in the mountains and one of my favorite climbs is Vrtaca Mountain (2181m). The ascent takes about 2-3 hours and in winter it mostly depends on the snow conditions. Last weekend the climb was really enjoyable! I decided to climb the southeast ridge of the mountain which is especially nice in the late afternoon light. The view from the summit covers all Karavanke Mountains and stretches over the Kamnik and Julian Alps as well as up to Gross Glockner in Austria.
