Urban hiking
Hanna, Finland
Whew. I’ve managed to survive three days in a completely new country, France. In the past few days I’ve been running up and down the streets of Nancy, taking papers from here to there and trying to get to know the city. Fortunately I had my new shoes here waiting for me, otherwise I think my feet wouldn’t have kept up wit the pace of the rest of my body.
Even if one is not going to coquer the hights of mount Everest, good shoes come in handy. Urban environment can be almost as tricky as nature, with wet leaves making the streets slippery, uneven pebbles stalking for your steps and the sheer amount of steps taken on a hard asphalt wear you out soon.
I’ve been planning that during my five months here in central Europe I want to visit the Alps. I’ve heard that the wievs are great and routes challenging. Next week I will try to find my new universitys sportclub and get in contact with other hikers. It’s not fun nor safe to go on a trip all by yourself, but hopefully I will meet lots of other “randonneurs”.
