Winter in Kashmir
For many people Kashmir is associated with war an un safe to travel to. It is not true ! - if you just stay outside the small valleys close to the LoC( line of control), and take the plane from Dehli or Leh. I spend two weeks in Kashmir valley, Srinagar and Pahalgam and discovered friendly and hospitality people. It was like a cold European winter with -10C and lots of snow. One day my Kashmir friends asked me if I want to go fishing for trout…. We was at 2500 meters and mid winter and I thought he was joking. But now way. After just 10 minutes by the river, we had two trouts of nearly 1 kg each ! But buy your fishing licens, the military are checking you.. That was a tasty dinner, and even in the middle of a muslim country we enjoyed it with a glass of beer. For trekking opportunities it was many paths to follow, since many of the local people was heading for the remote areas collecting wood for the fire and for some forbidden hunting. It was also easy to find a place for the night, since the summer “houses” for the shepherds was open and not in use… I look forward to see this beautiful part of India in summertime !
