Great experiences in my own neighbourhood

Trip in Norway ~ Beginner difficulty

Marit_On the top of Ristuva.jpgLiving in the countryside, at the north-west coast of Norway, we are lucky to have a fantastic, various nature just outside our doorstep. We can choose among sea, woods, hills and mountains for relax and exercise.

Marit_leaving for Ristuva.JPGI love all kind of outdoor life, but for the great experiences I prefer the mountains. I dream about hiking for days in the Norwegian mountains in summer and in the Cretan mountains in the autumn. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate the beautiful hills and mountains in my own neighbourhood.

Today I will show you the nearest one: Ristuva, 406 m high. There are several paths leading to Ristuva, some made by humans and some made by deer.

Marit_Fagerfjellet.JPG When the sun shines, and I have a day off together with good friends, we bring our tea thermos with us and choose a long route.

Marit_Meekknoken 751 m.JPG When I am alone and mostly do it for exercise, I choose the short one with the steepest rise. And the only thing I bring with me is my cell phone,- in case of an accident.

Marit_Friends.JPGThe view and the experience is fantastic anyhow…..

I'm actually going to Norway this summer - how do I find this place? and can you join a guided tour if you are not familar with the place?

You find it at Averøy, on the north west coast of Norway. Our paths start in the middle of the island. At a place called Vebenstad. There is a parking place near Bådalen skole. Going back to the main road you turn left to find the shortest and steepest path, and you turn right to find a longer one. The paths are mostly used by locals, so they have no signs and they do not exist on any maps. However, they are well used and easy to follow. The start might be a problem, but find someone to ask!
There are no guided tours to places like this, but if I am at home when you arrive, I will be happy to guide you! From spring to autumn I visit Ristuva several times a week:-) In our area we have a lot places like Ristuva. (I will show you some of them when/if it stops raining) At KNT you can buy a map called Kristiansund 1: 50 000. That is a map showing a lot of hiking routes in the area, and it also describes some of them. If you like the combination sea/mountains, Averøy is the perfect place! We have no big hotels here, but a lot of cabins near the sea.
