Last week Peter wrote: ”Why go to the end of the universe, when you have a pearl in your backyard?” I really agree with you Peter!

Only 3 hours driving from my home I find my favourite hut to hut hiking area.

This area is also a perfect place for cross-country skiing in winter,- if you only have the patience to wait for forecasts of good weather. When my friends and I are planning a new adventure in the mountains we always trust a forecast of bad weather and we do not rely completely on forecasts of good weather. I think this is the most important of The Norwegian Mountain Code “Fjellvettreglene” You can read them all here.

KNT owns 26 smaller and bigger cabins in my local area. 8 of them you find in the Sunndal/Dovrefjell area. Rauberghytta, 1317 AMSL, is the highest located one. It is a pearl of an open self-service cabin!

The winter route Hafsåsen – Rauberghytta takes about 5 hours. Maps: 1420 II, 1419 I, 1420 III
