Two weeks to go...
Aukje, Netherlands
Hello all,
The last few weeks have been ab-so-lu-te-ly crazy! Planning two expeditions in Africa is a LOT of work and i have felt kind of stressed!!! But sooooooo looking forward!!!
In two weeks time, we will be hiking up Mt. Kilimanjaro! And although i am well aware of the dangers of altitude sickness, am in fairly good shape en my shoes are still very very very comfy, i do wonder if i should have prepared myself even better. Because we are planning a biketrip with some dayhikes in between, i havent really been focussing on long distances and i hope that wont catch up with me when going uphill.
Well, i guess we’ll see! The next two weeks, i will be biking from Pangani (Tanzanian Coast) to Moshi, visiting the Usambara and Pare Mountains.. There’s supposed to be some amazing hikes there and i am planning to do a couple in preparation of Kili!
After the Kili climb, there will be more biking south of Arusha. Apparently a very adventurous area, might be doing Mt. Hanang as well!
As i want to travel as light as possible, i am starting off with only one pair of shoes: the ECCO hiking boots. Lets see if they do the trick for biking as well! Pair of sandals for the evenings, and thats pretty much it. I never used to be a light traveller, but have certainly learned my lesson in the last few years when packing too much stuff :).
Take care y’all, and a full report of African Adventures nexth month!
Aukje.
